Back from Helsinki

Last weekend I was invited back for my second gig at Playground Club in Helsinki, Finland.

It's always great fun to play this crazy basement club in the city center. The club has a low ceiling, deep red lights and an amazing sound system. The perfect ingredients for a rocking party!

It was blazing hot down in that basement due to the hot day in Helsinki, but luckily the sweaty crowd kept the dance floor busy until the next afternoon. Yes, the NEXT afternoon!

I played two sets, one during the main party at night and then again for a couple of hours at the after party. Thank God we stayed an extra day to explore the city, eat some delicious food and chill out!

I've managed to record my set and uploaded it already. I posted only the first hour of the night set, as I wanted to keep the rest of it exclusive to the people who attended the party and shared an amazing time with me.

Thanks to Marko and his crew for having me again! I hope to return very soon!

We were very excited to see and hear Richie Hawtin dropping Alec Chizhik & Markus Mehta’s “Chaos Theory” (Rino Cerrone Remix) track during his Beatport stage closing set at the 2011 Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit.

This track is doing incredibly well. It is climbing up and down Beatport’s Techno Top 100 chart since early April.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can do so here:

Back From Tokyo

I've just returned from a fantastic trip to Tokyo for a gig at the Amate-Raxi club.

Tokyo is my most favorite city in the world and the Japanese people & culture are very close to my heart, this is why I would like to use this note to inform you about a few things.

At the moment there are almost no foreigners in Tokyo. This worries the locals and makes them very sad.

Therefore I would like you to know that Tokyo is 100% intact & that there is no need to be afraid.

Although a lot of charitable support is reaching Japan from all over the world right now, I feel that the best way to help is to return to this amazing country itself.

Please help promote the return of tourism to Japan.

Thanks to Akihito and friends for showing me a wonderful time.

Sayonara!

Berghain Impressions

If you click the link below you will find pictures taken by Markus Mehta and friends, during an amazing stay in Berlin for his gig at the illustrious Berghain club on May 2, 2009.

Markus rocked the main floor all night long alongside Detroit - Techno legend Derrick May.

The night was followed by a Sunday afternoon session with Carl Craig at the Berghain garden. The sun was shining and the music bumping!

Check out the flyer as well.

Getting to the core of things very quickly, it's easy to sum up the existence of Munich born and raised DJ and Producer Markus Mehta: "It's all about music". From an early age onwards, he was into DJing, and the idea of moving people with the music he loves fascinated him "from the very beginning”. Now this does not quite set you apart from your contemporaries (who really wants to be an accountant?), but his "burning desire” turned into a full-grown passion, which took him around the world eventually. Always good to have a dream. Not only Martin Luther King knew this.

It was in Munich, the beautiful city where underground and traditional values seem happily married to each other, where Markus who, with his company Electronic Soul, found his direction. Firmly rooted in the deep and tech house scene, he developed the great sensibility to interpret any dance floor to get the distinguished crowds going, versatility and flexibility being the two key words.

Electronic Soul, Markus' DJ booking and event promotion agency, quickly became a hub for the international techno and house scene. Called into existence with the objective of creating parties that were slightly different, Markus' vision – to present people with an eclectic musical selection that is further out than the drab and mundane, the tried and tested – has helped shape the Southern German nightlife.

Markus, always pushing himself to grow artistically, turned into an accomplished DJ, rocks clubs around the globe for over a decade now, and as one of the Rote Sonne club residents in Munich, he continues to grow his legacy as a fine purveyor of fresh grooves right at the core of things. His sets are upfront and deep at the same time, with a nasty injection of sex and funk – specially handcrafted to drive the vibe into sweaty mayhem. Personal invitations by Sven Väth and Derrick May are the perfect proof for his selector skills.

In addition to his busy international DJ schedule, Markus has been drawn into the production of forward-thinking dance music, a logical progression which has seen him gaining momentum and the respect of his peers. Markus’ collaboration with Stephan Riedel, the deep and driving "Absorbed In Thought", released on Exun in 2003, made it into the charts of techno luminaries like Laurent Garnier and Rolando.

In August 2004, "Overseas", which included breathtaking remixes by Paul Brtschitsch and Shalako, was released on Alex Flatner's Circle Records. The follow-up with remixes by Stryke and DJ Kered, titled "Obsessions", also out on Circle, hit the stores in late 2006. Both records caused quite a stir: Bryan Zentz included "Overseas" on his hard-hitting “Monoid“ mix CD, and Hernan Cattaneo licensed "Obsessions" for the "Sequential" mix compilation on Renaissance.

In late 2007, Markus teamed up with his friend Alec Chizhik to deliver the deep yet driving "Transit EP" on Headtunes, one of America's finest tech house labels. A couple of months later, Markus and Alec released "Compass" on Belgium's Punk'ID. Being carried by a warm old school lead hook, a nice array of percussions, and some classy samples, "Compass" has quickly found its way into the hearts of clubland. Dubbing the track "a deep journey with a nice story", well-known DJs and clubbers alike are "suckers for this sound".

The productive Bavarian did not stop there: One year later, in 2008, Markus signed his track "India" to the illustrious Great Stuff label, and the track saw release as part of the "Great Summer Games Stuff" compilation.

2009 proved to be one of the most productive years for Markus so far: He was not only touring with the "5 Years Of Great Stuff World Tour" outfit, he also played a handful of gigs with Detroit techno legend Derrick May. In May, Markus played his debut show at the celebrated Berghain club in Berlin, grooving the receptive main room audience into ecstasy with his well-received extended four hour set. And there was more to come: Alec Chizhik and Markus Mehta’s EP "Revolt" on Electronic Petz, released at the end of August 2009, re-established Markus as the fine electronic music connoisseur with soul he truly is.

2010 sees Chizhik and Mehta return with yet another fresh release, "Munich Disco Tech Vol. 7" on Great Stuff, out on May 17. The famed “Munich Disco Tech” series saw its first release in summer 2008 and sported remixes by Tonka and District One. Always featuring new talents as well as international legends, the series quickly became an instant success. The newest edition features productions by the up-and-coming British producers James Talk and Anil Chawla as well as Alec Chizhik & Markus Mehta whose track "Tactile" also got an excellent remix treatment by Detroit techno master Stacey Pullen.
